The journey from my apartment to office is generally 30-40 mins ride considering a smooth traffic but it normally ended up with 1 1/2 hr stuck-on-the-road-ritual due to the heavy traffic during peak hr, when everybody rushing home after work. I am sort of getting used (or better to say immune) to it, and usually not even slightly perplexed to handle the daily traffic congestion. However, i reckoned i had not seen the real nasty situation till today.
What happenend was, we knocked off at 6pm and happily set home. The traffic was good initially but soon the car was moving inches by inches. Its kinda norm so nobody actually took it into heart. However, the situation got worse and the car queue was soon not moving at all.. Apparently a bus at the other end of the bridge caught into fire which led into a massive jam. The brazilians were apparently well trained and instead of cursing and swearing, everybody got out of their vehicles and began to make friends with strangers they haven't seen in their life (I kid you not, thats wat i called Rio. ^_*)
I was sitting in one great traffic jam but my eyes weren't tearing and I was not gasping for breath. Why? It seems that the byproduct of the vast sugar cane industry in brazil, is alcool aka ethanol and 70% of the cars in the country are running on this and not petrol. Good eco-sense, I concluded.
The severe congestion finally got back to normal after the fire was put off. A less than an hr trip balloon into 4 hours, officially broke the records holder of 3 hrs jam experienced by my peers!!!!! Wat a horrendous JAM!!!!

I thought it could really helps the government earn a lot of money in long terms, but nobody else seems to see the sense in the idea.
