Re-opening of jimmy Choo Restaurant

Date : Sunday, August 20, 2006
Time : 7:28 PM

Its the auspicious day for the re-opeing of Jimmy Choo's Restaurant!! The opening theme is 'Cook-watever-u-like'.. hehe.. the Pot Luck Return. Chef

Jimmy prepared curry vege, BBQ chic wing n roti prata, while Iqbal cooked some real yummi-licious curry beef rendang. Pauline brot her vegetarian-ikan-bilis and Edward presented his failed steam-egg. As for me, i had some healthy salad n sinful Pao de queijo AND not to forget the Miss Daisy ice-cream cake.

I had to proudly declare that i made the Pao de queijo!! Not anyhow bot from downstair bakery or those frozen type one okie!! keke.. tribute to BT's wife who shared the tips wif me: YOKI flour!! It was a real fun experience.. just like how we used to make Glutinous Ball when i was still a kid..

Cool huh---- the laughing Pao de Queijo!!
Thumbs Up

Lavendar Grief

Date : Friday, August 18, 2006
Time : 1:53 PM

A gift from CK b4 i flew to Brazil. Someone who nvr fails to noe wat i really need.

My fav combination of tea. Lavendar n Rose bud, a match made in Heaven. How abt us?? Are we? I had not touch on the tea since i came to brasil, it makes me think of u when i start sipping the tea.. i need some comfort.. n it helps..

Mum had not called for a weeks, which is unusual. I decided to give her a ring. Shocked but not totally unprepared, i was told the news of Grannie's wither.

I can hardly rem how my grannie's looked like. All i rem.. was she used to take care of me while i was still a toddle. All these years.. i hardly went back to visit my grannie n grandpa, the excuses given was no time.. too far away n so on... The real truth was.. i was too occupied wif my own social life and cant seem to hv them registered in my schedule.

She suffered from a serious stroke last month. The doctor had prepared us with the worst. We all know its just a matter of time. Mum was busy traveling to-and-fro SG n Batu Pahat. I asked mum to keep me posted on her situation at least i can arrange to fly back just in case. Too bad.. i was late.

Things sometimes dont affect you untill a while after, when it sinks in.

Some great article to share:

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is
when we're kids?
If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you
think in fractions.
"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never
thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's
the key.
You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump
to the next number, or even a few ahead. "How old are you?"
"I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And
then the greatest day of your life . . you become 21. Even the words sound like
a ceremony . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you
sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun
now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa!
Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH
50 and your dreams are gone.
But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.
You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a
day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday! You get into your 80s and every
day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime.
And it doesn't end there.
Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92." Then
a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid
again. "I'm 100 and a half!"
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height.
Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them "

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening,
whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's
workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6 The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only
person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you
are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets,
keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is
unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next
county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we
take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Ilha Fiscal, Success!!!

Date : Saturday, August 12, 2006
Time : 8:49 PM

Still rem my post on the mickey mouse island, which the guys here had tried vising many times but nvr succeed? We were determine this time so everybody set off by as early as 9am. And yeah.. we are the early birds, so early that we waited for almost 2 hr. =P

While waiting, we went to see a submarine exhibition. It is a floating museum anchored at the pier. During its time in active service, the Riachuelo submarine traveled over 181,000 miles, 1,238 days at sea and 17,700 hours under water. Touring its compartments , we learnt about its weaponry and machinery, getting a good idea of life on board of a submarine.

I
think the accommodation platform of the jack-up and semi that my our company built is definitely 5-star hotel after seeing all those crampy toilets and dorm.

The tix is definitely worth the money. With just R$4 per pax, we get to take this huge wooden boat which brings us to the Mickey Mouse Island. It was real cool!!

It was a guided tour, with a Portuguese speaking tour guide. However, we- gringos were given an introductory book each, which basically is a brief translation of the tour guide speech.

Hehe.. i love my cammie. Now i got all the history of this island in my harddisk.

Most of the things here were reproduction according to the 19th centrury, only a few are originals and belong to the Navy Museum. I can imagine how posh it used to be...

After the tour, we headed straight for food. Everywhere we intended to go seems to be extremely propular. No choice but to drove all the way to Barra. i guessed it blessing in disguise, we found a newly opened (just 3 weeks old) north brasil restaurant! The fish and prawn moqueca was so delicious!!! I simply hv to put my diet plan behind my head or else it would be a sin. The waiter and waitress were wearing traditional north brazil's dress. We took the alfresco seat which is by the seaside. Mmmmm.. so Bahia!!

Met a cute puppie named scoobee-loo during the meal, hehe.. the rest of my afternoon was busy playing wif him. He is only 2 weeks old. Zico too was this big when i first brot him home. Ahh.. i missed Zico.

Went to the beach for a stroll.. the breeze was refreshing and i can smell the sea even i was standing by the road shoulder. The serenity was so undisruptable. Just when i was about to walked down to the beach, i heard the car honks and some dudes shouting. I turned my head and i was too shocked to response. I saw BUTT!! yea.... naked brazilian butt stretching out from the van passed by, haha.. welcome to Brazil!

I want to be a beach bum someday. Simply doing nothing else but dive and dive and cuddle up at the beach with some cute dude and chill. Ooh.. Life!!

National Day Dinner at Copacabana

Date : Friday, August 11, 2006
Time : 11:40 PM

Ya.. lets blog a bit on the national dinner last nite @ Zhong Guo restaurant by the copacabana beach.

Waited at least two hrs for all the big shots, finally the dinner begun after much wine and beers. Typical brasilina party. The food was suck. Even the brasilian hardly moved their forks and knifes.

I missed Lei Garden. Esther, if u see this, u know wat i mean. Eat as much as u can.. SG is too nice for ppl who believe in makansutra like us...

BT made two huge sponge cakes for the celebration, with nicely printed SG flag on it. Thats the yummiest food throughput the dinner.

See the picture taken from my Brasilians colleague in Singapore.

Nice huh..Next year i wanna go for the ndp. what a rush it must be to be there right beneath e fireworks!

We have a National Day Dinner (well.. strictly speaking.. i m not a SGrean) tonite at Chong Guo, a restaurant in Copacabana. The dinner is organised by our Brasil CEO Mr Tay and all of us hv to go in red & white smart casual.

'The Island Home' sang by Kaira Gong.

Ohh shit.. i can hardly rem the tune of the song not to say the lyrics.. now i was told to stand in the stage leading the singing session?? Oh my.... was my prayer ever heard? Now i got a big butterfly in the stomach!!!

Labeling

Date : Wednesday, August 09, 2006
Time : 1:47 PM

I hate labeling and i hate being labeled.
I am a human not a good.
I dont need a label on my forehead nor i need a tag to remind others who I am.
You are so and so husband or wife.. so and so daughter or son.. so and so bf or gf.. Hey.. I am who i am.. i dont belong to anyone and no one actually belongs to me.

Life is always full of labeling.
From a can of condensed milk to choosing a lifetime partner.
We all do it. We all read labels.
Admit it. We label ourselves and others all the time.
Punk or prep. Nerd or athlete. Loner or PartyQueen.
We tell ourselves that we are either dumb or cool; plain or pretty.
We put ourselves and others into categories from time to time.

I cant help but to wonder..
Are we doing the same thing when we try to label relationships?
Relationships aint neat. In fact, it turns out to be just plain messy in most cases..
There are no cleanup directions with a label, either.

Relationships get messier if someone is labeled as the "best friend" or the "boyfriend" . Expectations come in and feelings change.
Once we label someone a girlfriend or a boyfriend can we ever go back?
Or, can someone have multiple labels? (Haven't you heard about that dream guy who is both a "best friend" and "boyfriend" to his significant other? Is that even possible?)

Are we performing relationship suicide when we sum up our relationships?

Just the other day i was sharing wif a fren of how I craved for a runaway, a real, long runaway which i treat it as some sort of retreat. Through weeks of extreme scrambling at work and mood swing, i had this strong urge to crawl into a cave to hide. I knoew this happenend to me time to time. The need to seek solitude. Not that comfort from close friends didn't take effect. Its simply an absolute one-person kind of breakaway that i need to take. Being in the thick of 'me, myself and I' , it might help me to reflect the journey I had taken, the choices I had made, and the realignment that I need to take to move on.I guessed its time to take a break. (Hv a kit-kat!!)

Yo, it's my day!

Date : Monday, August 07, 2006
Time : 10:44 PM

Loved ones, surprised phone calls, sweet smses, cheeky e-card, sincere greetings, these all made for a nice birthday this yr. No.. I do not have any surprise this yr. No sudden proposal, no 999 stalk of roses neither do i had held a samba party ... No doubt I miss the mad and fun time hanging out wif bunch of kakis, but party is nvr the same without u guys ard. Nevertheless, i truly enjoyed this special day filled with simple yet touching hugs n kisses from the Brasilians and overseas blessings from SG.

Many many Thanks for you guys & gals, who woke me up in the middle of my sweet slumber, shouting 'Happy Birthday' at my ears with mouthful of durian cakes; Thanks Mr. A for your call as a result of my desperate attempt to remind you of my bday which falls only three days after urs. ( You heartless.. I had known u for almost 4 yrs!!) Thank you the sweet kind soul who sing me the so-called 'traditional' bday song which made me almost shed my tears. Thanks KV for the sms and the 'gift' and so on... and thank YOU soo much for remembering and your effort to make it a memorable day for me.

HAPPY 2xth BIRTHDAY ! ! ! yes i guess i do luv u, despite your common look, petite size, occasionally mood-swing, world-champion blurness, missy-chievous wilfulness... ya.. I still love you because of who you are!

Lumiar

Date : Sunday, August 06, 2006
Time : 9:02 AM

Woke up super duper early this morning to visit Lumiar.

An interesting town found online by K
C. It is a small town located in the east of Novo Fribugo ( a city famous for its lingerie) with an approximately 700 meters of altitude. The altitude explains the temperature most pleasant in the summer and the cold most intense in the winter. A little town famous for its surrounding waterfalls as well as rafting and kayaking activities.

We detoured on the way, stopped by a private waterfall which was used to produce mineral water.

It took us two and half hr to reach Lumiar. After a sumptuous lunch, we set off to look for more waterfalls.

It seems like its not a right season to visit because the waterfall was not as magnificient during rainy summer. The photos online suddenly appeared to be deceiving as the waterfall all became a scale smaller due to the dry winter.

We visited Sao Jose- a famous waterfall and Encontro do Rios, a famous river for rafting. The water was coolingand refreshing. There wasnt any activities going on hence its rather peaceful and calm.

Conclusion: Not very impressive but its not too bad for a Sunday trip. =)

Niteroi Peak

Date : Saturday, August 05, 2006
Time : 2:03 PM

Went to Aminiera at Sao Francisco for lunch. The oxtail was increfantasticably!!

After lunch we drove up to the top of Niteroi city Park ( Parque da cidade). I had been here once.. when i first arrived. (
See blog entry dated 2nd of May 06) How time flies huh.. now i feel like an old bird. Geegeegee...... I can still rem how dreamy i was during my first visit.

Unlike the other time, there was a lot of people up there at the platform for para-gliding. I guessed the weather was just nice for a flight.

Cariocas sometimes say that the only nice thing about Niterói is the view of Rio. Even if so, it would be worth mentioning that it's a truly spectacular view, the kind of view of Rio you can't actually get from anywhere in Rio itself. Again.. i was mesmerised by the beauty of nature.

Birthday Blues?

Date : Friday, August 04, 2006
Time : 1:06 PM

I know, I'm early.
My birthday isn't until Monday but I've got the blues.

Caution: Whining Ahead!!!!

I am not looking forward to my birthday but it's not because of my age. I could easily lie about my age so I'm not worried about being 26 19.

I guess I still have that childhood birthday fantasy. Birthdays were a big deal in my family. I always had a big birthday party and lots of gifts. Even after I got older, my parents always made the day special for me.

Then... My birthday started going down hill ever since I got myself into relationships. I was dating a guy who was pretty nice but inattentive. For two year he didn't get me anything and not even an excuse was given. So, my birthday had been a disappointment. It's my fault really. I had unrealistic expectations, I know. And it rarely work out especially when you have a bf who doesn't give a damn of your special day. But wouldn't it be nice to be special to SOMEONE even for just one day a year. One day! Sheesh! That's not asking for much, is it?

So I learnt. No more bday celebration, no more overblown expectation. And.. surprisingly.. my special day soon turned out to be sweeter than ever!! A simple blessing from a colleague, an e-card drawn by ur buddy, a candy given by the elevator attendant who remembered your bday. I learnt that happiness can be as simple as a warm hug from someone that really cares for you.

Thank God!! I got a bunch of fans cum frens who really really made it up for all!! So my dear, thou this year I gonna be alone in a stranger country but no no no no.. no thanks for your suggestion of getting a brasilian lover. REM wat I said: I I might be alone but I m not lonely =P
